Introduction to Seasalter Sailing Club
Seasalter Sailing Club is located on the North Kent coast 2 miles west of Whitstable and 5 miles from the end of the M2 motorway.
SSC is a members club, owned and operated by the members, through the General Management Committee, elected annually by its members at the A.G.M.
Our focus is on club racing and leisure sailing, of dinghies and catamarans, in a relaxed atmosphere suitable for single and family members.
Why join our club? We have fantastic facilities to support our sailiing: - new changing facilities including family area, solar heated showers, access during week for full members, safe off beach boat compound just a few metres from the beach. Free use of club boats on timetabled club days so no need to have your own boat. Patrol boat cover is arranged for organised sailing days. Our clubroom community area has children's toys, books, DVDs, pool table and darts. Club sailing kit is available to borrow, including helmets and personal floatation jackets. Free locker storage for your boat sails etc. Enjoy our licenced bar and fitted galley kitchen. Tea and coffee is included free in full membership.
The club can offer you informal training by way of coaching and buddying, also valuable crewing opportunities with more experienced sailors. Complete beginners may find benefit in attending an RYA Level 2 certificate dinghy sailing course prior to joining us.
Organised sailing takes place during weekends from March to November when tides are suitable and a number of members also sail during weekdays in the summer months. The sea is shallow and tides permit approximately 2 hours sailing either side of high tide.
The Club places no restriction on classes of sailing boat and there is a near 50/50 split between dinghies and catamarans. Club racing is split into two fleets by PY handicap rating (Fast Fleet950). No keelboats or powerboats are permitted.
The Club currently owns four boats for use on timetabled sailing days by members - subject to prior booking. These are currently two Laser Pico dinghies, 1 Dart 15 and a Dart 18 catamaran.
Members are expected to carry out a small number of duties each year in the race tower or on the patrol boats, training will be given. This is a great way to learn what goes on and to meet other sailors.
