20th September - Pre sailing burger and wedges, AED demonstration and Barts Bash sailing event

Be part of this exciting event on Sunday 20th .

13:00     We start at midday with pre-sailing burger and wedges.

14: 00    This is followed by a demonstration by Jane Bainbridge on our new asset – our very own defibrillator – it’s easy to use and will be sited outside the club for public as well as club use. So the more people to know why we have it and how to use – the better. Knowing how to use it could help you save someone’s life one day.

15:00 The main event is then Barts Bash – this event is run by the Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation,  a charity in the memory of Andrew (Bart) Simpson, ex Olympic champion. The foundations  aim is to encourage more youngsters into sailing and the Bash is their global event where we can “race” against the likes of Ben Ainslie and Iain Percy.

This year the focus is on “buddy” sailing. The idea being that you take out that friend or family member who has promised to sail one day – we’ve all got at least one. The more we get on the water the better (Ian is taking his daughter Ellie out, who hasn’t sailed for three years. Good luck with that then!). Briefing is at 15:35 and we will have a charity box for donations.

We will have one buddy race that will then be added to the Barts on line results (last year Kevin Dutch was the top Global heavy winds sailor – wow – can we do as well again this year?)

We will also be running a buoy race using the club picos (or your own boats if you prefer). This is a race from a mark at the shore to a buoy around 100 meters out and back – stop watch timed with times kept on a blackboard – just like Top Gear. We want as many people as possible to give this a go – it’ll be great for kids big and small – (and if the weather is good anyone can do this).  And of course it’ll be great to see if any of those Cat sailors can master a pico!

So another great event – come on down and bring your friends and families. It’ll be fantastic to see you –especially if you haven’t been down recently
